Where does gratitude come from?
I love the idea that gratitude follows grace. That makes sense, right? All good gifts are from God. All of His gifts to His children are rooted in His love and His grace which we can do nothing to earn. We simply receive with gratitude.
James 1:17 says: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
I love the meaning in that verse and the poetry in that verse. It’s beautiful.
And y’all, this quote about grace and gratitude is fantastic...
“Charis always demands the answer of eucharistia. Grace and gratitude belong together like heaven and earth. Grace evokes gratitude like the voice an echo. Gratitude follows grace like thunder lightning. Not by virtue of any necessity of the concepts as such. But we are speaking of the grace of the God who is God for man, and of the gratitude of man as his response to this grace...” —Karl Barth
I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving!
